Walking up a dirt road to a monastery overlooking the Himalayan foothills, we were instantly awestruck by the design and detail and size of this jungle paradise. With more than 200 monks, ranging in age from 6–60, we immediately appreciated the calm and peaceful environment. Although, it didn’t take us long to realize that their spiritual quests doesn’t mean they can’t be kids, too—you should’ve seen them tear up the soccer pitch! We laughed and talked and learned more about meditation and philosophy and the Dalai Lama (whose birthday happens to be today!).
We can all say it was the most unique and special Fourth of July we’ve ever had, and it won’t be soon forgotten.
